An insight into the fitness levels of Leicester City star Harvey Barnes has come to the fore late on Thursday evening.
For those not aware, wide-man Barnes was forced to sit out Leicester’s most recent outing, when the Foxes made the trip to Manchester en route to an eventual 3-1 defeat at the hands of champions City.
This comes after the 25-year-old picked up a hamstring injury late in the Foxes’ prior fixture, against Bournemouth.
With Barnes remaining the only member of Dean Smith’s squad to have reached double digits in the goalscoring column in the Premier League this season, fears over any form of extended absence have, in turn, been rampant.
This of course comes with Leicester finding themselves in the thick of the battle against relegation to the Championship, and set to face off with 13th-placed Wolves this weekend.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his star attacker’s wellbeing was put to the aforementioned Dean Smith.
In a boost for all associated with the club, though, the once-capped England international could mark his return to the pitch next Tuesday, when Leicester make the trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds.
Barnes is targeting a return at Leeds. ‘Harvey is ready to go on the grass. I think it would be a risk to put him in. He will train on Sunday. It wasn’t an easy decision – I have to balance the risk [and the risk of reinjury] was too big, so we’ll prepare him for Tuesday.’ #LCFC
