The week commencing May 2nd will see the second legs of both 2021/22 Champions League semi-finals play out.
The Premier League has two clubs represented in the final four. Liverpool were drawn against Spanish outfit Villarreal in one tie, whilst Manchester City take on Real Madrid in the other.
This means that there is a possibility of both an all-English final, and an all-Spanish final.
However, after the first leg results, it looks much more likely that we will see two of England’s top clubs against one another in the competition’s showpiece in May.
Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win over Villarreal in the first leg meeting between the sides, whilst Man City edged an enthralling clash with Real by four goals to three.

How many all-English Champions League finals have there been?
So, with an all-English Champions League final potentially on the horizon, fans are no doubt wondering how many such outings have taken place throughout history.
The first all-English Champions League final came back in 2008. Manchester United and Chelsea clashed in Moscow on May 21st. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for the Red Devils 26 minutes in before Frank Lampard put the Blues back on level terms after 45 minutes.
The two powerhouses could then not be separated through 90 minutes nor extra time, leading to a penalty shootout which included that infamous John Terry miss as Manchester United bagged their second CL title under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Twelve years ago today, Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties to win the Champions League.

We then had to wait over 10 years for the second all-English finale, as Liverpool and Tottenham clashed in Madrid for what was one of the more boring Champions League showpiece occasions. The former won that tie 2-0 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.
Finally, the most recent all-English Champions League final took place just last year with Chelsea beating Manchester City as Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game.
