The post-Jesse Marsch era has gotten off to a positive start under caretaker manager Michael Skubala after Leeds United showed what they are capable of under the best possible conditions during a fantastic first-half display at Old Trafford that saw the Whites go into the dressing room with a 2-0 lead thanks to Wilfried Gnonto and a Raphaël Varane own goal.
Though Manchester United battled back in a swashbuckling second half to earn a point in their race for Premier League honors near the top of the table, it was the type of performance that Leeds can try to build upon and gain confidence before the club appoints the next manager to step into the breach in Yorkshire.
Predicted Leeds United XI
Leeds United Team News
- Out: Rodrigo, Stuart Dallas, Adam Forshaw, Archie Gray
- Doubt: Liam Cooper, Sonny Perkins, Luis Sinisterra, Marc Roca, Pascal Struijk
Skubala will lead the relegation-threatened Yorkshire outfit back to Elland Road after a successful midweek away day at Old Trafford, but will certainly lament two potential injuries suffered Wednesday evening.
Pascal Struijk was removed after sustaining a possible concussion and may not be risked this weekend, while the returning Luis Sinisterra also suffered a knock and subsequently was removed before the 10-minute mark. He too is listed as a doubt for the reverse fixture.
Rodrigo, Stuart Dallas, and Adam Forshaw are all guaranteed to be unavailable for selection on Sunday, and questions still surround Liam Cooper and Marc Roca, both of whom failed to feature last night in Manchester. If declared fit, both could certainly push for selection ahead of Robin Koch and January signing Weston McKennie respectively.
