Leicester could not keep their winning run in pre-season going against Serie B side Palermo.

The Premier League returnees beat Shrewsbury in a match last week but fell to the Italians on Friday night.

This was despite fielding a strong team that included Harry Winks, Wilfried Ndidi, Conor Coady and Patson Daka amongst others.

That’s not to say the Foxes didn’t have plenty of chances as they looked to fill the energy tanks ahead of the new campaign.

Winks sent an early shot over the crossbar and Stephy Mavididi had a handful of chances in the first half, including an acrobatic effort that was cleared off the line.

Leicester did not make any changes to their starting XI for the early parts of the second half and there was defensive work to do for Conor Coady, who put in a brilliant block to prevent Palermo from taking the lead.

But Federico Di Francesco did open the scoring with just over 20 minutes to play, prompting a host of changes for the Foxes.

It saw Bobby De Cordova-Reid, James McAteer, Jannik Vestergaard and Victor Kristiansen enter the field for the remaining minutes.

A near miss on an own goal for Palermo was as close as Leicester got to getting back into the match but it ended in defeat for Steve Cooper’s side.

Leicester will be back in action against Augsburg on August 3 before they face Lens a week later.
