Harvey Elliot says Liverpool want to finish the Jurgen Klopp era ‘with a bang’ after their standards dropped in recent weeks.

After going out of the FA Cup in the quarter-final at Manchester United and bombing out of the Europa League at the same stage against Atalanta, Liverpool earned just five points from as many games in April to fall out of the Premier League title race.

The Reds bounced back with a convincing 4-2 win over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, with Elliot’s blockbuster strike infront of The Kop the pick of the goals.

With a return to the Champions League secured next season, and two games to come, at Aston Villa next Monday and at home to Wolves on the final day, the Reds are seeking to bid farewell to Klopp on the back of a hat-trick of victories.

Midfielder Elliot told the club website: “Recent weeks haven’t been good enough and we wanted to achieve a lot more.

“But with the crowd behind us and the last two games, we want to go out with a bang. We just want to win both of them.

“We have Champions League football next season – it’s where this club belongs and deserves to be. There are going to be more special nights and hopefully we can put it right next season again.”

On his superb top-corner strike, the 21-year-old added: “I’ve been practising it in training – recent games I’ve hit the bar and hit the post, but I’m just happy it dropped in.

“It’s what a kid dreams of. You go to bed dreaming of it and you wake up in the morning wanting to achieve the dream. Every goal is special, especially in a Liverpool shirt, but to do it at the Kop end and the way it went in with the crowd behind is amazing.”
