Liverpool dealt fresh midfield transfer blow

After a dismal start to the season that saw Liverpool fail to win any of their opening three league games, Jurgen Klopp finally admitted that his side needed some fresh legs in midfield:

“We are looking for it,” said Klopp.

“If it is the right player, we need him. If it is not the right player, we don’t need him.”

Asked specifically whether he wanted to sign someone, Klopp replied: “That changed, of course. I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong. That’s the situation.”

Following those comments, Liverpool have smashed Bournemouth 9-0, but that does not change the fact they are in need of a box-to-box option who can preferably play on the right of a three-man midfield.

Liverpool have been dealt blows in their respective pursuits of Ruben Neves and Jude Bellingham, are set to stay at their current clubs this summer.

And now, another Liverpool target looks set to be prevented from joining the Reds.

Liverpool are said to have tabled a £42m bid for Brighton star Moises Caicedo, but have been informed that will only buy his boots:

“I think you’d probably get his boots for that, maybe, knowing the chairman! It’s not for me to talk about. It is what it is,” Graham Potter said.

He added: “It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level. As soon as you do research on him you realise he is a top kid, great person, young, playing in the Premier League, has all the attributes to play at the very, very highest level.

“But we know the position he is in and we know the position the club are in, which is why we don’t want to lose him.”
