Liverpool handed major injury boost ahead of Manchester City clash

Liverpool and Manchester City face off next week.

Liverpool have been handed a boost ahead of what is sure to be a tough game.

England boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has returned to training ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on Sunday.

Henderson played no part in England’s 2-1 triumph over Italy on Thursday night due to the illness that ruled the 74-capped midfielder out of Liverpool’s Champions League round-of-16 second-leg clash at Real Madrid on March 15.

But he could come into contention for the visit of Ukraine after Southgate revealed he is ‘good to go’.

That is also good news for Liverpool with the trip to defending champions Manchester City now just seven days away.

Liverpool head into that game having seen their upturn in form ended by back-to-back 1-0 defeats at the hands of Bournemouth and Real Madrid.

However, Liverpool do have two games in hand on Tottenham, who currently occupy 4th spot.

But should Liverpool fail to clinch a Champions League place in the coming months, it is expected to limit their spending in the summer transfer window, which is especially bad this season given a big rebuild is needed at Anfield.
