Liverpool have submitted a surprise bid for Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endō as they look to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s ranks before the transfer deadline.

The Reds have both of their first-choice midfield targets head to Stamford Bridge this summer despite having bids accepted for both, with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia both turning down the option to move to Anfield in what turned into an embarrassing affair for the Reds.

Having let Fabinho depart the club for Al-Ittihad, Klopp now faces a situation where only Stefan Bajcetic is a recongised defensive midfielder in his squad, and he is expected to take action imminently to change that.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Anfield outfit have tabled an offer for Endo, with the 30-year-old Japanese midfielder keen on the move in what he regards as the ‘biggest opportunity of his career’.

Endo, who captains the Japan national side, is a key cog of the Stuttgart side and appeared 40 times for them last season, scoring five goals and grabbing five assists in the process.

Previously, he has played for Shonan Bellmare, Urawa Red Diamonds, Sint-Triuden.

As per the Athletic, ‘talks are advanced and the Japan international has been given permission to travel to Merseyside to complete the transfer’.

Elsewhere, French outlet FootMercato claim that Liverpool are also interested in Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara, though they face an uphill task in convincing their Premier League colleagues to sell with the season already underway.

Meanwhile, Sportsbild also add that Klopp’s side have re-ignited their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who was left out of the Supercup defeat to RB Leipzig and has previously hinted that he will leave the Allianz arena if his gametime does not change.
