Supporters of Premier League giants Manchester United have taken to social media in numbers this evening, to make clear their frustrations with two members of the club’s squad.
United, of course, are currently locked in action on the continent.
After surrendering a two-goal advantage in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final first-leg meeting with Sevilla last week, Erik ten Hag’s troops have made the trip to Spain, for the tie’s return leg.
Safe to say, however, that things could not have gotten off to a much worse start for the Red Devils.
Inside the opening ten minutes at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, the evening’s visitors fell behind, owing to a calamitous sequence at the back.
After David de Gea rolled the ball out to Harry Maguire, the latter proceeded to make an almighty mess of his ensuing ball out wide, opening the door for Youssef En-Nesyri to skip through and slot home:
Nightmare start for Man Utd! 😳
It’s a mix-up at the back that gifts Sevilla the lead…#UEL pic.twitter.com/PwGAQAjcys

Since, however, others have shifted blame onto De Gea for a needless pass, culminating in quite the back and forth across social media:
That’s on Maguire for me. De Gea plays a ball that’s not easy but it’s what you do if you’re playing out from the back. He’s got plenty of options Harry and completely miskicks it

That’s literally De Geas fault there were 3 white shirts around Maguire.

David de Gea needs to realize you cannot play those passes to Harry Maguire.
You can play them to Raphael Varane.
You can play them to Lisandro Martínez. You can NOT play them to Harry Maguire.

Watch Maguire’s hand point for the ball and you lot will still blame it on De Gea. Worst captain in our entire history. pic.twitter.com/uEjPYNp0uG

Blame Maguire all you want, that’s a fucking hospital pass from De Gea.

It’s not de gea’s fault, Maguire literally asks for the ball to be played back to him pic.twitter.com/f19B8MjX0L

The fans that are blaming maguire for that goal have 0 IQ it’s de gea fault for passing to maguire while having 3 players on him💀

That’s an awful mistake from Maguire. He probably doesn’t want it there from De Gea but if he’s not sure what’s around him he just has to pass it back and let De Gea smash it long. He tried to be clever and got it wrong.

De gea’s fault 100%, he sees 3 players pressing Maguire and still passes him the ball, can’t believe some united fans still want him

Maguire is more to blame then De Gea for that goal. He’s called for the ball, had enough space to take a touch and turn. pic.twitter.com/xXHVcluVja
