Manchester City began their Champions League campaing with a frustrating 0-0 draw with Inter Milan.

Their Serie A opponents, who they faced for the first time since beating them in the 2023 Champions League final, deservingly took a point after preventing City from being at their fluid best.

Kevin de Bruyne’s half-time withdrawal due to injury did not help proceedings, with Inter almost taking three points after threatening Pep Guardiola’s men throughout.

Erling Haaland missed the chance to score his 100th City goal after being kept quiet by a resolute defence, with Phil Foden’s introduction from the bench unable to inspire the hosts.

The midfielder did force a good save out of Yann Sommer, who also kept out an effort from Josko Gvardiol.

Former Manchester United pair Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan two good chances for the Nerazzurri, with the former opting to backheel instead of shooting before Mkhitaryan blazed over from close range.

But the best chance came for City late on as Ilkay Gundogan, playing in his first Champions League match for City since lifting the trophy, headed straight at Sommer.
