The Glazers may be forced into approving a deal for Atlanta striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer in order to prevent their stock prices from plummeting as they look to sell the club, it has been reported.
United have started the summer transfer window in mixed vein. They have already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea in a deal worth £55m, and are closing in on a deal for Andre Onana, with the Inter Milan goalkeeper having agreed personal terms with the club.
But there are still major question marks over the squad, with only Anthony Martial available as a recognised striker among Erik ten Hag’s ranks and the Frenchman regularly sidelined through injury.
Though talks with Atlanta over Hojlund have taken place, the Red Devils have so far baulked at the hefty £86m price tag, with the club working to a tight budget this summer and keen to stretch it across several players.
However, as per the Mirror, the Glazers may end up stepping in to help the club, something that they have never done to date, as they look to maintain Manchester United’s value amid a potential takeover this summer.
It is reported that ‘they know the club’s value will drop without serious investment and that they must not fall any further behind Manchester City and keep pace with the rest of their top-four rivals’ and as a result ‘the Glazers have told Ten Hag the money will now be there for him to make the additions he wants’, a move which could see talks for Hojlund pick up pace.
