Manchester United are in talks over a move for another former Erik ten Hag player in the form of Nicolas Tagliafico as cover at left back for this season, it has been reported.

The Red were handed a major blow after it emerged that Shaw has picked up a hamstring injury that will leave him sidelined for some time, with backup left-back Tyrell Malacia also still recovering from an injury that he picked up at the end of last season.

This issue forced Erik ten Hag to utilise Diogo Dalot at left-back in their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, but there is hope that a new defender will arrive before the clash with Arsenal this weekend.

The Red Devils have been linked with a whole host of names, including Premier League trio Marc Cucurella, Sergi Reguilon and Rico Henry along with former Chelsea man Marcos Alonso.

Now, the Independent report that the Red Devils are enquiring about a potential move for one time Chelsea target Nicolas Tagliafico, who Ten Hag worked with while at Ajax and who was part of the Argentina side that lifted the World Cup in Qatar last winter.

They claim that the player is keen on the move and reunion with his former boss, but the two sides remain some way apart on any deal. United are keen to do a loan deal in order to save more money to try and sign another midfielder, while Lyon are keen to do permanent business and are demanding a fee of around 6m euros to make a move happen.
