Marcus Rashford admits football has its ups and downs after he scored a brace as Manchester United beat Barnsley 7-0 in the Carabao Cup.
The Red Devils ran out 3-0 winners in the Premier League against Southampton on Saturday, with the England international netting his first goal since March.
But the 26-year-old added two more – albeit against lower-league opposition – that will surely boost his confidence heading into a busy run.
Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen also got themselves a couple of goals each, while Brazilian Antony won and converted a penalty in the rout.
It marks United’s biggest win since thrashing the Saints 9-0 in 2021 and the largest win in Erik ten Hag’s era as boss.
Rashford has been under the microscope again in 2024-25 following a poor campaign last season leading to him being left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Everyone has seen how good he can be when on top form and the signs are there that he is beginning to get back to his best.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “”Football is football. Sometimes you have ups and sometimes downs, but we have to use these games to get momentum and consistency.
“We will move on to the next game now, rest, recover and focus on the next one.
“As a front unit and midfield I thought we done really well today.”
United will move on and swiftly prepare for Crystal Palace, who they travel to on Saturday.
