Match report
What looked set to represent a fine night’s work for Manchester United on Thursday ultimately proved a hugely costly one, on the back of the club’s meeting with La Liga outfit Sevilla.
Erik ten Hag’s troops, of course, were back in action a short time ago.
In the first-leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie between the clubs, the Red Devils welcomed a struggling Sevilla outfit to Old Trafford.
And, for the majority of the evening, on-loan midfield star Marcel Sabitzer looked set to prove himself the difference-maker.
The Austrian opened the scoring in the clash inside the opening quarter of an hour, latching onto Bruno Fernandes’ pinpoint through ball before slotting home in style:

And Sabitzer was back at it again a little over five minutes later, on this occasion set free by Anthony Martial to double his tally for the night:

First, a lapse in concentration on the part of Tyrell Malacia allowed Jesus Navas to steal in at the back post, with his ensuing delivery across the face of goal having made its way home off the unfortunate David de Gea.
The worst, though, was yet to come.
After Raphael Varane was forced into a premature departure from the action early on, Lisandro Martinez followed suit, with what looked a potentially serious injury.
And this set the stage for a last-gasp Sevilla equaliser, as Youssef En-Nesyri’s header across the face of goal deflected home off substitute Harry Maguire:

Sevilla, in turn, will take the momentum back to Spain next week, with Manchester United set to have it all to do, sans the services of a whole host of key performers.

Don’t spend £100 million on Kane, buy Martial a new pair of legs.

Can we all agree Harry maguire is the worst Manchester United signing ever? pic.twitter.com/RWTzQwPKKT

A game that was there to be won comfortably ended with United clinging on. Hugely unfortunate to have both centre-backs forced off but performance got loose besides. No Varane, Martinez, Fernandes + possibly Rashford for second leg makes progress a real challenge. #MUFC
