Former France defender Marcel Desailly has advised countryman Kylian Mbappe to reject a move to Real Madrid and chase a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe is expected to confirm shortly he is joining Madrid in the summer, with his announcement potentially expedited following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League exit last night.

It has been reported Madrid were concerned about making the move official while there was still the possibility of PSG meeting the Spanish club in the final of the Champions League.

However, while it seems inevitable Mbappe will move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Desailly thinks he should take a different route entirely.

The former Chelsea man told beIN Sports: “I’ve said it already. [If I were Mbappé], I’d move to another continent.

“I’m not sure if Real Madrid is the perfect place for him to be. There is Vinicius Jr. on the left-hand side, [and] players who are showing great ability like Jude Bellingham.

“[Mbappé] will not be the full number one the way that he wants [to be]. Technically, if you’re thinking about the business of football, I would go to Saudi for €350m for a year, come back next season, the year of the World Cup.”

Mbappe had a poor game at the Parc des Princes as PSG crashed out of the Champions League with Dortmund winning both legs of their semi-final 1-0.

The German side will meet the winner of the tie between Madrid and Bayern Munich on June 1 at Wembley.
