According to The Athletic, Mikel Arteta was visibly frustrated with Aaron Ramsdale during the club’s pre-season tour of the US.
Arsenal lost to bitter rivals Manchester United whilst in the US and the Englishman was at fault for United’s first goal – when Bruno Fernandes’ shot went through him – in Arsenal’s loss in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
It was added that Ramsdale’s kicking was also a little erratic during the friendlies and at times, Mikel Arteta could be seen turning away in frustration when the ball had been sliced out of play — usually when Ramsdale attempted to play long to his right.
Ramsdale’s poor showings in pre-season come at the same time Arsenal have just signed Brentford and Spain shot-stopper, David Raya.
This may suggest to some that the Gunners have made a late call to sign a new goalkeeper due to Ramsdale’s form.
However, The Athletic state Arsenal’s interest in Raya is longstanding and would have likely continued even if Ramsdale was exceptional in pre-season.
