A major update on the ongoing managerial search at Premier League outfit Southampton has been provided late on Friday.
The subject of the bench at St. Mary’s, of course, has proven headline news in the English media over the course of the last couple of weeks.
This comes as the Saints prepare to bid farewell to current head coach Ruben Selles.
Owing to a season to forget, which also saw long-time boss Ralph Hasenhuttl sent on his way, Southampton are preparing for life in The Championship with a fresh approach in mind.
According to The Athletic:
‘Southampton intend to implement a possession-based style next season, moving away from the high-pressing approach under Ralph Hasenhuttl and Ruben Selles.’

The man in question? Russell Martin.
Martin’s Swansea City, after a remarkable stretch of seven wins from nine to close the campaign, finished just three point outside the Championship’s playoff spots.
And such efforts evidently proved sufficient to convince the board at Southampton of the former Norwich City defender’s credentials as their next boss-in-waiting.
Negotiations between the two parties, in turn, are soon set to kick into gear, ahead of Martin’s potential appointment at St. Mary’s as early as next week.
Russell Martin is expected to be appointed Southampton’s new manager next week.
Current manager Ruben Selles is set to leave #SaintsFC when his contract expires on June 30.
