Tottenham Hotspur have jumped ahead of Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the race to sign Leicester City star James Maddison, according to reports.
The future of midfielder Maddison, of course, is expected to take its place front and centre in the English media headlines over the coming weeks.
This comes with the 26-year-old widely expected to be on the move, on the back of Leicester’s shock relegation to The Championship.
After key performer Youri Tielemans’ King Power exit was confirmed earlier this month, a host of further departures are expected to follow over the course of the summer.

Just where, though, could Maddison end up?
To this point, two clubs have been named as most interested in the England international, in the form of Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, however, then Spurs, it would appear, could in fact soon be afforded a free run at Maddison’s signing.
As per a report from Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, Newcastle have cooled their interest in the Leicester man.
This comes with Eddie Howe and co. having turned their attentions towards other targets.
Tottenham, as a result, could soon tie up a deal for Maddison, after doing likewise for Empoli shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario earlier in the day.
