Al Hilal star Neymar has voiced his strong support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup.

The Brazil icon has expressed his belief that the tournament in the Gulf nation would be an “exciting” event for fans worldwide.

Saudi Arabia is the sole contender for the hosting rights, and FIFA is expected to confirm its selection through a vote by its 211 members by the end of the year.

In a video shared by Al Hilal, Neymar – who made the move to the Saudi Pro League from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023 – shared his enthusiasm for the potential World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

He said: “Happy to see the World Cup here in Saudi Arabia. I think it will be a very exciting World Cup for everyone.

“People from all over the world will have a chance to learn more about Saudi culture, about the country, so it will be a great experience to be here with everyone. They deserve this opportunity.”

The 2034 tournament, which will feature a massive 48 teams, is expected to take place between November and December, following a similar schedule to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Neymar, 32, is currently Brazil’s all-time leading scorer and has participated in three World Cups.

He is in the final stages of recovering from an ACL injury that has kept him out of action since October 2023.
