Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of left-back Alex Moreno on loan from Aston Villa.

The Spaniard has joined Forest until the end of the season, with the option to make the move permanent next summer.

Moreno, 31, joined Villa from Real Betis in January 2023, becoming Unai Emery’s first signing at Villa Park having been linked with Forest previously.

He made made 48 appearances as he played a regular role in Villa’s Champions League qualification last season.

Forest chief Ross Wilson said: “Alex is a player we have had a long-standing interest in so we are naturally all very happy to see him arrive at Nottingham Forest today.

“He has amassed significant experience in La Liga and the Premier League, and he brings all of that quality and experience to our group now.”

Moreno was instrumental in helping Villa return to European football during his first season, ending the campaign in seventh under Emery.

He then battle for a starting left-back berth with Lucas Digne last term, making 29 appearances during a historic campaign for the Villans.

Ian Maatsen’s summer arrival has pushed Moreno further down the pecking order and will now join up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The full-back spent the entirety of his career up to that point in Spain, playing 127 times for Rayo Vallecano and 122 for Real Betis.
