A remarkable story, centering on the potential change of ownership at Premier League giants Manchester United, has come to the fore late on Friday evening.

The info comes by way of The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who has revealed that Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of French champions Paris Saint-Germain, has played a ‘significant role’ in negotiations over Sheikh Jassim’s takeover bid.

Amid ongoing efforts to beat out competition from fellow candidate Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Jassim’s bid team are understood to have made initial contact with Al-Khelaifi for advice regarding the Glazers’ hefty valuation of United.

This, however, subsequently resulted in the Glazers themselves reaching out to the PSG chief – a leading figure in European football – to urge the Qatari group to increase their offer.

In turn, as per Ornstein’s report:

‘Al-Khelaifi, acting in an advisory role for Sheikh Jassim’s bid, has met the Glazers and Raine Group, the American bank that is conducting the sale on behalf of the Florida-based family, to discuss the proposed takeover.’
