Team news

Portugal and France have named their starting line-ups for the second quarter-final at Uefa Euro 2024 in a rematch of the 2016 final.

Roberto Martinez chose an unchanged Selecao starting side from their win over underdogs Slovenia in the round of 16.

Captain Cristiano Ronaldo missed an extra-time penalty during that game but converted his spot kick as part of a 3-0 win for his nation in the shootout following a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes.

Portugal XI: Diogo Costa, Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Pepe, Nuno Mendes, Palhinha, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao, Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva

Midfielder Adrien Rabiot was suspended for France, allowing Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga to come into the side.

Randal Kolo Muani, who made an impactful display in their late 1-0 win over Belgium in the round of 16, started in attack.

France: Maignan; Kounde, Upamecano, Saliba, Hernandez; Kante, Tchouameni, Camavinga; Kolo Muani, Griezmann, Mbappé

The state of play

Portugal won Group F but had a trickier time than many might have expected along the way, including a surprise 2-0 defeat in their closing match to a Georgia side playing at their first major tournament.

They scored a 92nd-minute winner to come from behind to beat the Czech Republic in their opening match and proceeded to beat a dangerous Turkiye side 3-0.

France are yet to score a goal from open play at the finals, having seen off Belgium through Jan Vertonghen’s own goal.

Les Bleus started their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Austria but were held 0-0 by the Netherlands and 1-1 by Austria.

The winners of the game will play Spain or Germany in the semi-finals in Munich on July 9.
