Preston have parted company with manager Ryan Lowe after just one game of the Championship season.

Lowe has left the club by “mutual consent” after the Lillywhites lost 2-0 at home to Sheffield United on Friday.

The 45-year-old had been in charge of Preston since December 2021 when he joined from Plymouth.

He guided them to 13th, 12th and 10th during his three seasons in charge but has departed following discussions with the club’s board on Sunday.

Assistant Mike Marsh has been placed in interim charge for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Sunderland as well as their trip to Swansea on Saturday.

A statement from chairman Peter Risdale said: “Ryan leaves with the thanks of everyone at the club for his hard work, dedication and commitment, and we wish him and his family the very best for the future.”
