Real Madrid have confirmed that they are set to be without key pair David Alaba and Aurelian Tchouameni for both of their upcoming cup ties against Valencia and Villarreal through injury.

Both players started the Spanish side’s most recent outing, a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal, though summer signing Tchouameni was withdrawn just after the hour and replaced by Lucas Vazquez. Los Blancos ultimately tasted defeat for the first time since their return to action following the World Cup, with goals from Yeremy Pino and Gerard Moreno proving too much to overcome, and leaving Carlo Ancelotti’s side three points behind El Clasico rivals Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

And now, Real Madrid have announced that Tchouameni is a major doubt for the upcoming clash with Valencia, while David Alaba will be sidelined for around three weeks, ruling him out until February.

“After the tests carried out on our player Aurélien Tchouameni by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a left soleus injury. Evolution pending”, they wrote.

Depending on the severity of the injury, the Frenchman could be forced to watch on from the stands for any time between one and eight weeks, though early reports suggest a timeframe of around three weeks out.

Meanwhile, there is similar concern over Alaba, who picked up his injury in the dying stages of the weekend’s clash, and is suffering with the same Soleus problem except in his right rather than left leg. Likewise, he is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks, meaning that the pair will miss both the Copa Del Rey and Supercopa ties, as well as a pair of La Liga clashes.
