Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has, late on Thursday, spoken out over Mason Mount’s situation at the club.

The subject of Mount’s role in west London, of course, has come back to the fore in a major way over the course of the day to date.

This comes on the back of the aforementioned Lampard’s return.

After the dismal reign of Graham Potter was finally brought to an end last weekend, one-time midfielder Lampard was, on Thursday morning, announced as his replacement.

The 44-year-old has taken up the reins at Stamford Bridge on an interim basis, through the close of the season.

And immediate chatter when it comes to Lampard’s plans for Mount has followed.

With Mount having since endured a hugely disappointing season this time round, owing to a combination of fitness woes, struggles for form and even a recent benching amid a long-standing contract standoff, his incoming manager was therefore drawn on the 24-year-old’s prospects over the final months of the term.

And, speaking during his first press conference since sealing a return to west London, Lampard hinted at a prominent role for Mount, in reiterating that ‘he’s a huge player for Chelsea’:

“Mason has always been a fantastic player for me at Derby and Chelsea.

“I know he’s had a few slight injury problems. I need to speak to him and find out where he’s at, but I know what I get from Mason. He’s a huge player for Chelsea.”
