Manchester United will have to make do without the services of Marcus Rashford for the foseeable future after the Englishman limped off in their 2-0 win over Everton, it has been revealed.

The striker set up the second goal for Anthony Martial against the Toffees, and had several of his own efforts saved, but appeared to pull his groin as he tried to race onto a ball behind the Everton defence.

After the game, Erik ten Hag claimed he hoped that the issue was not too serious, though he was unwilling to predict the outcome.

As per an official statement, however, the club have revealed that their star man will be sidelined for several weeks, but he is expected back before the end of the season.

‘Subsequent assessment of the injury suggested that Marcus will be unavailable for a few games, but is expected to be back for the season run-in’, they revealed.

Ten Hag has backed the striker to come back stronger despite the setback though.

United are in action on Thursday night in the first leg of their Europa League last 8 tie against Spanish outfit Sevilla, before they travel to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

They also face a FA Cup semi-final against Brighton before the end of the month, and a top four clash with Tottenham.

Currently three points inside the top four with a game in hand on the Lilywhites, Ten Hag’s options to replace Rashford are limited thanks to the injury to Alejandro Garnacho, but the return of Anthony Martial against Everton will come as a major bouns.
