Chelsea are set to net themselves a cool 20% of whatever fee Crystal Palace receive should Marc Guehi leave Selhurst Park this summer, it has been revealed, meaning that the Blues could be in line to receive as much as £10m for their former academy graduate.
Guehi departed Stamford Bridge in 2021, with the Blues agreeing a £20m deal that saw him move to south London and Crystal Palace, a place where he has since become a stalwart in defence.
Vice-captain at the club, the Englishman has racked up 79 appearances under Patrick Vieira and Roy Hodgson, helping Palace reach an FA Cup semi-final this season, while he has started all but one game in the Premier League.
His form has not gone unnoticed either, with Gareth Southgate having handed the 22-year-old the first of his 3 England caps in March 2022.
It has also alerted both Arsenal and Tottenham to the centre-back, with the pair of north London clubs expected to fight it out for his signature this summer.
Managerless Tottenham are on the lookout for more options in defence, with the futures of Clement Lenglet, Joe Rodon, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga all unclear heading into the summer.
Guehi won’t come cheap though. Crystal Palace have reportedly slapped a £50m price tag on his head, with the Eagles under no pressure to sell and Guehi not out of contract until 2026.
There is an added complication too, with Chelsea set to profit should he be sold.
According to the Daily Mail, ‘it is understood the previous Chelsea regime secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal that saw the England defender leave Stamford Bridge for Selhurst Park in 2021.’
It means that, should the defender be sold for the £50m amount the South Londoners are demanding, the Blues would be owed a massive £10m from the deal.
