Mykhailo Mudryk made his Chelsea debut vs Liverpool. The winger joined the Blues in January for a staggering Β£89m.
Graham Potter opted not to start the Ukrainian vs Liverpool in the dayβs early kick-off.
However, Mudryk caught the eye during a 35-minute cameo, setting up a number of openings and hitting the side netting after fine work inside the area, but was unable to make the occasion with a goal.
But he has since made just four more league appearances since his debut, none of which have seen Mudryk complete 90 minutes.
And now, Graham Potter has explained why the winger is not seeing much game time:
βEvery player wants to play and itβs important that players play to improve, I think thatβs a fact,β Potter said.
βSometimes you just need a bit of training time, you need a breather. Lots of factors. Hopefully, he can benefit from the time heβs had. Itβs not easy for him to just arrive in the middle of pre-season for him and to come into a new country, new club, new league, and just hit his absolute maximum level.
βItβs regardless of the fee, I know people will look at the fee but it doesnβt change the situation he is in. So weβre positive about him. Weβre positive about the future for him. But we need just to help them settle and help him understand what he needs to do to help us.β
