Sebastiano Esposito: Introduction

The Italian striker bred through the Inter Milan academy has all the ability to become one of the nation’s best talents. Quick off the mark, great at finding space and a killer instinct when in front of goal makes Esposito a lethal forward.

Sebastiano Esposito: Background

Born in Castellammare di Stabia, a comune in the city of Naples, Sebastiano was surrounded by football. His father, Agostino, played for the Napoli youth side but was unable to make it as a professional. As an admirer of Mauro Icardi, Esposito followed the Argentine’s route to Inter but not before being spotted by a Brescia scout and recruited by the Lombardy club. Due to the financial situation of the club, however, Esposito was picked up by Inter in 2014 where he would develop.

It took until his 16th birthday to earn his Inter debut in the Europa League. Becoming Inter’s youngest senior player to be fielded in European competition.

The following season, Esposito made his Champions League debut, replacing Romelu Lukaku in a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. He became the second-youngest player to play in the competition after Inter legend Giuseppe Bergomi. Bergomi spoke about Esposito’s achievement after the game.

The future for the Italian, as viewed by those of great respect within Inter Milan, is regarded to be a bright one.

Expert insight on Sebastiano Esposito

“Inter have one of the best equipped but most under used youth systems in Italy. Players like Nicolo Zaniolo have moved on only to become huge stars, this has gone on for some years. Sebastiano Esposito however, may buck this trend as he has shown in his brief career that he has everything that it takes to make it at the highest of levels. He made his debut against Eintracht Frankfurt at only 16-years of age and scored his first at 17-years old, he was nominated that season for Italy’s golden boy award that year.”

“On the peninsula he is seen as a huge talent. His biggest asset is the way he sees space, he is almost a dummy striker and drifts in between the lines. His runs are unusual and hard to pick up; he often disorients defenders by running from deep often on the blind side. He is perfect for a counter attacking style of play as he presses well and has a lot of energy to do this throughout.”

“He can move the ball quickly, relishes one on one situations and can make those incredible runs at speed. A very intelligent player he is well above his years and let us not forget he can finish. He may still be finding his feet at senior level, but he scored 46 goals in 32 games for Inter’s Primavera side.”

Tactical Overview of Sebastiano Esposito

Esposito is in essence the epitome of a striker. Always thinking about how best he can create opportunities for himself in front of goal. Looking to find as much space as possible to utilise his bursts of speed, getting in behind defenders to find 1-vs-1 opportunities. A hard worker, it has been clear the likes of Romelu Lukaku enjoy playing with the Italian. So much so that Lukaku handed Esposito a penalty opportunity which he took gladly.

Esposito, given the ball by Lukaku, steps up and slams the ball into the corner despite the keeper going the right way.Esposito has become a fantastic penalty taker, often striking the ball into one of the four corners making it impossible for any keeper to try attempt a save.

Typically, Esposito’s movement is what makes him so threatening, always looking to either burst between the lines or find space in areas where he can fashion an opportunity for himself. He is demanding of his teammates and will often be seen pointing into spaces where he wants the passes played.

Esposito is seen calling for the ball having found space outside the opposition box.Having received it, Esposito spins and strikes the ball far into the bottom-left corner of the goal.In a preseason friendly against Spurs, Esposito displayed the excellent burst of acceleration between opposition defenders. This enabled him to create a 1v1 situation.Facing Hugo Lloris, Esposito curled a finessed effort round the French keeper to level the score.

The development of Esposito is still lengthy. His performances in the youth setup at Inter Milan have enabled Esposito to become one of the hottest prospects in Italy, The decisions made around his future will weight heavily on his chances of success.
