Gomez joined Anderlecht in 2021 for a fee of just £2m, leaving German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund.
The former Barcelona academy star has since featured 50 times for the Belgian outfit, scoring seven and assisting 15 in the process.
Gomez has since made the move to Manchester City for a fee of around £11m. The defender was spotted watching on as his new side smashed Bournemouth 4-0 this past weekend.
And now, Gomez has conducted his first interview as a City player. During the interview, it was revealed that the left-back has taken the no.21.
That number previously belonged to Manchester City legend and countryman of Gomez, David Silva.
On taking Silva’s shirt number, Gomez had this to say: “I think it’s very nice that another Spanish player takes the No.21 shirt [at Manchester City] and I will give my best wearing it.”
How will Manchester City use Gomez?
“He played in Spain U21, young talent for Barcelona, went to Dortmund, played in good hands under Kompany. He played well, we target him to bring him here. He’s for now, he will stay with us, the squad, alongside Joao, Josh and him for the left-backs, he’ll stay with us,” Pep stated.
This leaves Gomez, Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker as senior City full-backs for the 2022/23 campaign, as Guardiola also suggested recently that Man City’s transfer business was done for the summer.
