Sevilla travel to Athens to take on Manchester City in the SuperCup on Wednesday evening in a game that is shaping up to be a cracker.

Last season’s Europa League winners take on Pep Guardiola’s treble winners as massive underdogs, and a loss to begin their La Liga campaign hasn’t helped matters either.

Now managed by José Luis Mendilibar after a failed stint from Jorge Sampaoli, they fell to a late 2-1 defeat to Valencia in their Spanish top flight opener, but will head into the tie with the English champions confident of springing a surprise given their excellent record in knockout football.

Their transfer business has been slow, but crucially they have avoided losing any of their Europa League winning side and much of the same XI that began the final two months ago are expected to be named in the starting XI in Athens.

Loic Bade, who was a revelation in the heart of defence for the Spanish giants, has joined on a permanent deal while they have also signed Dribjl Sow, with the Swiss midfielder making his competitive debut in their La Liga opener.

However, he could well remain among the substitutes to begin with, with veteran pairing Joan Jordan and Fernando seemingly the preferred choice as things stand.

Meanwhile, Jesus Navas will face his former side, with the defender now in the twilight of his career but still a regular in the Sevilla starting XI.
