Match report
Premier League giants Manchester United saw the club’s hopes of a cup treble brought to a definitive end on Thursday night, at the hands of Sevilla.
Erik ten Hag’s troops, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.
After surrendering a two-goal advantage in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final first-leg meeting with Sevilla last week, Erik ten Hag’s troops made the trip to Spain, for the tie’s return leg.
Inside the opening ten minutes of action, however, the tone for the evening – a less than positive one from a United perspective – was set.
This came upon a calamitous mix-up between David de Gea and Harry Maguire opening the door for Youssef En-Nesyri to put Sevilla in front both on the night, and in the tie:
Nightmare start for Man Utd! 😳

The Spaniards continued to dominate as proceedings wore on, with only the narrowest of offside calls having prevented Lucas Ocampos from making it two.
Loic Bade proved the man on target this time round, nodding a looping header beyond David de Gea and in at the far post:
Disaster for Man Utd, as Sevilla strike immediately in the second half through Loic Bade! 💥

And there was still time for José Mendilibar’s men to add a third, as yet another David de Gea mistake – highlighting the Spaniard’s struggles with the ball at his feet once again – allowed En-Nesyri to slot home into an empty net:
A terrible night for Man Utd only gets worse…
David De Gea will not want to watch this game back 😬#UEL pic.twitter.com/z9iiPlCDZE

This, in turn, is how things remained through the full-time whistle in Andalusia, as Sevilla sent a lacklustre Manchester United packing from the Europa League, to book their spot in the competition’s semi-finals.

That’s on Maguire for me. De Gea plays a ball that’s not easy but it’s what you do if you’re playing out from the back. He’s got plenty of options Harry and completely miskicks it

Harry Maguire error is a good contrast for how well John Stones is doing by adapting from CB to a midfield role. Maguire fails to scan around him that there is a player coming to press him on his blindside. Stones has been phenomenal at escaping 360 degrees pressure in midfield.

De Gea’s actually gonna get away with that because Maguire call for it. Maguire’s defo at fault for what he did with the ball but you don’t pass just because one person calls for it, can you not think for yourself????

This is a prime example of how important Bruno’s influence is on the team

Sevilla have had the craziest season in quite some time.
They have stared into the abyss of relegation this season, and now they are about to eliminate Manchester United and make their way to the Europa League semi-final.pic.twitter.com/PHpsfuB5D3

I want to be kind to Jadon Sancho but I honestly don’t know what he is. He doesn’t have the pace to be a winger, he doesn’t effect a game enough to be a number 10 and doesn’t score enough goals. He looks like he’s regressing and has an identity crisis.

Some keepers aren’t great with their feet but save a lot of shots and they kinda get away with it but De Gea players football with Toblerone boots

Man United have had some shockers this season. Brighton, Brentford, Man City, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Newcastle. You can add Sevilla to the list. Awful.
