The Manchester United takeover saga continues to rumble on but journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the situation over the weekend:
“The most significant news on the takeover, at least in terms of anything public, is that both groups are working behind the scenes to advance to the point where they’re ready to sign if the Glazers choose to proceed,” Ben Jacobs said.
The Glazer’s plan to sell Manchester United emerged back in November of 2022.
“Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company’s Board of Directors (the “Board”) is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club”, the club wrote in a statement.
“As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company”, they added, with multiple reports claiming that their unpopular reign at the club’s helm was finally set to come to an end.
It was then reported by Qatari news outlet Raya at the beginning of July that a deal was set to be signed off in the next few hours, with Sheikh Jassim becoming the new owner of the Old Trafford outfit.
