The Glazer’s plan to sell Manchester United emerged back in November of 2022.
“Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company’s Board of Directors (the “Board”) is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club”, the club wrote in a statement.
“As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company”, they added, with multiple reports claiming that their unpopular reign at the club’s helm was finally set to come to an end.
Now, on January 17, it has been reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has entered the race.
As per The Times, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest men, has confirmed that he is officially in the running to buy the club from the Glazers.
Parties have to register their interest with the merchant bank running the sale for the Glazer family.
Ratcliffe made a bid for Chelsea last year but left it too late to register formal interest. He has been weighing up whether to bid for United, his boyhood club, and met Joel and Avram Glazer last year, though the club was not officially for sale at that point.
The Glazers are understood to want around £5billion for Manchester United.
