The prospect of relegation continues to loom large on the south coast as Southampton comes into the weekend Premier League program still sitting bottom of the table and once again boasts a leaderless senior squad after the club parted ways with former Luton Town boss Nathan Jones after just three months in the St. Mary’s technical area.

With just one win in their last six league outings – a 2-1 away win against Everton at Goodison Park – on record, not only are Saints bottom of the table but they are currently showing no signs of improvement on the pitch despite added January business while remaining one of the lowest scoring sides in the league at the time of writing. As morale sits at an all-time low for the club, a result is desperately needed for a club that, on paper, has a better side than its position in the table currently suggests.

Predicted Southampton XI

Southampton Team News

  • Out: Tino Livramento, Juan Larios, Alex McCarthy
  • Doubt: Kyle Walker-Peters

Leaderless Southampton has regained the balance of their first-team options in preparation for their away day at Stamford Bridge but is still without two key assets in the back line. Former Chelsea academy product Tino Livramento remains a long-term absentee on the treatment table, joined by Juan Larios as well as backup keeper Alex McCarthy.

Questions also surround Kyle Walker-Peters in the run-up to proceedings at the Bridge but given the fact that the England international has now returned to training during the week, his inclusion may be a welcomed surprise should he pass fit.
