‘Spectacular footballer’: Thiago Silva lavishes praise on fellow Chelsea teammate

Thiago Silva has been full of praise for one of his Chelsea teammates in a recent interview.

That man is Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been arguably Chelsea’s most consistent defender for many years now, doing a superb job as right-back, right-wing-back and at centre-back in a back-three.

The Spaniard is also Chelsea captain and, after winning the Club World Cup recently, has now won every available trophy with the Blues.

When speaking about his defensive counterpart , Thiago Silva would label Azpilicueta a spectacular footballer and praised the Spaniard for the support he has given him:

“Cesar Azpilicueta, since I arrived, was one of my main sources of support,” Silva stated.

“There are players who have what it takes to be captain and he is one of them. He is a player who seeks union, who tries to help others. He is a spectacular footballer and a super-professional who, with certainty, deserves to be where is. Azpilicueta has beastly conditions.”

Azpilicueta’s future up in their air

Chelsea cannot offer anyone new deals at the moment due to the sanctions in place on the club.

However, whilst Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen – also out of contract in the summer – cannot sign new deals, it appears Chelsea could be set to keep hold of Azpilicueta for another year.

As explained by Goal, Chelsea have an option to extend Azpilicueta’s contract for another year but it is conditional on his appearances in certain competitions.

And whilst the exact numbers are unknown, it is believed that the defender is close to hitting the figure that would spark a renewal.
