The line-ups have been announced as Switzerland take on Germany in Group A at Euro 2024.

Team News

As he suggested he would in the build-up, Julian Nagelsmann has resisted the temptation to make alterations to his side and named an unchanged XI.

When asked why he was not utilising his squad, the former Bayern Munich boss replied: “We need rhythm.” Every member of his back four – Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rüdiger and Maximilian Mittelstädt – has played 180 minutes so far.

Switzerland boss Murat Yakin makes two changes to his side with Fabian Rieder and Breel Embolo coming in for Xherdan Shaqiri and Ruben Vargas.

The State of the Group

Nagelsmann’s Germany have already secured their place in the knockout stages but will look to claim the point they need to finish top of Group A.

The hosts got the tournament off to a flying start with an opening-night thrashing of Scotland and backed that up with a more conservative 2-0 defeat of Hungary. In Jamal Musiala, they have one of the tournament’s leading goalscorers with two.

Switzerland are also well placed in second with four points from their two games – a 3-1 win over Hungary and a 1-1 draw with Scotland.

Striker Embolo is relishing the clash with the Germans. He said: “It’s an important game for both teams, because both can finish first. I think the fact that we are neighbours makes it special for the fans. It’s a little bit of a derby, if I can say that.”
