Much to the annoyance of many an FPL fan, Manchester City were without two of their starting defenders for the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

John Stones was one of two centre-backs to miss the trip to Burnley, with Ruben Dias ruled out until next Friday at the earliest after picking up a concussion in training.

Stones is not expected to return in time to face Sevilla as Manchester City face up to three injuries picked up in a week.

Guardiola did not specify the nature of Stones’ injury prior to kick-off at Turf Moor but confirmed it was a hip problem after the match. The manager said: “Ruben was a concussion in the head. We were scared what happened so the protocol has to be seven days off.

“John felt with one pass something in the abductor. The doctor told me today he feels really good so it will not be long. He will not be ready for Sevilla, but maybe Newcastle.”

And finally, Kevin De Bruyne picked up a hamstring injury similar to his Champions League final injury on Friday, meaning he will be sidelined for some time and will also miss the Super Cup clash with Sevilla on August 16.
