Both Tottenham Hotspur FC and Liverpool headed into the match in fairly poor form, losing two of their last three league outings.
Spurs, though, were sat up in 3rd, whilst Liverpool were down in 9th place.
And when all was said and done in north London, Liverpool came away with the win.
Liverpool dominated from the get-go, which was to be expected given Spurs’ 5-3-2 formation.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring 11 minutes in. Andy Robertson played a cross from deep to Darwin Nunez who turned and found Salah. The Egyptian then span the defender and smashed home.

Liverpool were then lucky not to concede a penalty as Trent Alexander-Arnold pushed Ryan Sessegnon. But it was not given after a VAR review.
Alisson fired the ball up the pitch and Eric Dier headed the ball straight into Salah’s path, who was through on goal.
Tottenham started the second half much brighter and hit the woodwork after 48 minutes via Ivan Perisic.
Antonio Conte then brought on Dejan Kulusvski and Matt Doherty who had an instant impact on the game.
Doherty passed to Kulusevski. The Swede then slipped in Kane who beat Alisson from a tight angle.
Tottenham continued to apply pressure in search of a second goal but they were unable to find one.
Tottenham player ratings
Hugo Lloris (5) – Could not have done much about any of Liverpool’s goals.
Clement Lenglet (5) – Should have been tighter to Salah before his goal.
Eric Dier (3) – Poor marking of Nunez for the opener. Gifted Salah the second goal.
Ben Davies (4.5) – Had a tough evening up against an in-form Salah.
Emerson Royal (4) – Struggled to mark Robertson, leaving a lot of space for the left-back to exploit.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (6) – Marked Firmino out of the game for the most part.
Yves Bissouma (5) – Won a number of duels to help prevent Liverpool from playing through the middle.
Rodrigo Bentancur (6) – Had some joy against Thiago and Elliott, beating the pair on several occasions with some good one-twos.
Ryan Sessegnon (6.5) – Caused Trent issues down Liverpool’s right, getting in behind several times. He also should have won a penalty in the first half.
Ivan Perisic (6) – Played up front next to Kane but struggled in his new role. Did cause Trent issues when he drifted out wide, however.
Harry Kane (6.5) – A quiet game from Kane, who was isolated up top and had little support with Son not playing. However, when Kulusevski came on he finally had some support and scored from a tight angle.

Liverpool player ratings
Alisson (6) – Great ball up to Salah for the second goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (3) – Lucky not to give away a penalty in the first half. Was beaten several times by Sessegnon.
Ibrahima Konate (7) – A largely dominant display from the Frenchman who won most of his duels. Should have done more when closing Kane down for his goal.
Virgil van Dijk (6) – Marked Harry Kane well for much of the 90 – a job that was made easier by the absence of Heung-min Son.
Robertson (6.5) – Produced a number of quality crosses, including for the opening goal.
Fabinho (4) – Once again looked sloppy, giving away the ball several times and failing to track runners.
Harvey Elliott (5) – Linked with Salah well but did not test Spurs’ backline too much.
Thiago (5) – Struggled to have much of an impact on the match. Poor marking in the build-up to Kane’s goal.
Mohamed Salah (8) – Excellent control and finish for the opening goal. Showed good composure for his second.
Roberto Firmino (5) – Offered very little attacking threat for much of the match, failing to test Lloris and not linking well with Salah and Nunez.
Darwin Nunez (7) – Got the assist for Liverpool’s first goal and linked up well with Robertson throughout the match.

What is going on with Trent? Seriously. Looks stuck in mud. Can’t run. Still has quality on the ball but fuck me doesn’t look right. #LFC

What a great Liverpool goal. Nuñez and Salah combine with a clinical Mohamed Salah finish. Nuñez is causing Spurs serious problems.

Sweeping Liverpool move ends with Robertson finding Nunez in the box and he sets up Salah to smash home. A strong start for the Reds is rewarded.

Mohamed Salah has now scored as many Premier League goals as Nicolas Anelka (125).
Only 16 players in the competition’s history have more than those two. 🤯
