Word stemming from the media on Saturday evening points towards Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur preparing a significant offer for a new right-back.
The subject of Spurs’ options – or lack thereof – on the right, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in north London once more across the season to date.
This comes as the Lilywhites faithful continue to be left bemused by the selection choices of Antonio Conte.
Despite having given his backing to the signing of gifted young talent Djed Spence during the summer, Tottenham’s boss, for the most part, has continued to depend on the heavily-maligned Emerson Royal as his first-choice right-wing-back.
The weeks leading into the World Cup break in particular, though, saw the criticism directed at Emerson reach new levels, with the Brazilian having been subjected to heavy abuse during his side’s comeback downing of Leeds United on November 12th.
Emerson off and Doherty on. It’s the biggest cheer I’ve heard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium all season. #COYS

Calls, in turn, have almost inevitably begun to mount for yet another fresh body to be added to Conte’s right-sided defensive ranks.
The info comes courtesy of Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã, who have revealed that the powers that be at Spurs are preparing a January assault for Sporting CP standout Pedro Porro.
The proposal in question is expected to come in in the region of €45 million – Porro’s release clause in Lisbon.
Any move to north London would actually mark a return to English soil for defender Porro, after the 23-year-old previously spent three years on the books of Manchester City.
