Serie A giants AC Milan continue to push across the transfer landscape under owner Gerry Cardinale after completing their third summer deal for Argentine youth international midfielder Luka Romero, with I Rossoneri signing the player to a four-year deal on a free transfer.

Romero, who was born in Mexico to Argentine parents before moving to Spain as a youngster, came through the youth ranks at Real Club Deportivo Mallorca after first beginning his journey with Balearic minnows Penya Esportiva Sant Jordi.

The 18-year-old arrived in Italy two seasons ago after moving to Società Sportiva Lazio and is one of the most highly-touted youngsters in his age group while being named in the 2021 edition of theGuardian’s NextGen series. That promise was on display during the previous 2022-23 Serie A season when, upon scoring his first senior goal for the Roman outfit during a 1-0 win over AC Monza, became the first footballer born in 2004 to score a Serie A goal.

After the forced departure of Italian international Sandro Tonali, Milan has begun to flex their financial muscle this window when first securing a move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and reportedly remain with their sights set on Folarin Balogun and Yunus Musah, while the club is nearing a completed move for Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic that could see all three United States internationals ply their trade at the San Siro.

Romero only featured on 21 occasions for Lazio in the last two seasons and is likely viewed as a long-term signing for the club rather than a player expected to come in and feature prominently as early as 2023-24.
