Hojbjerg, it is understood, has long emerged as a key target on the part of Diego Simeone and the powers that be at the Wanda Metropolitano.

French international Griezmann, for his part, is fresh off a stellar season back in Atleti colours, which saw him help the club to a 3rd-placed La Liga finish.
And the 32-year-old is evidently keeping a close eye on his side’s efforts to improve for the campaign ahead, having taken to Twitter on Thursday to ‘like’ a tweet confirming news of Hojbjerg’s arrival moving ever closer.
