The future of French international winger Moussa Diaby could be in line for an unexpected twist this summer after Roshn Saudi League giants Al-Nassr look to hijack Aston Villa’s potential move for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

The 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate has emerged as one of the top attacking talents in the Bundesliga during his time at the BayArena in the last two seasons and has been the subject of considerable interest during the current summer transfer window.

Per updated reports from football insider Fabrizio Romano, Al-Nassr of levied an improved offer to Leverkusen for Diaby, who has also been the subject of a second bid from Unai Emery’s Villa.

In what would be one of the transfer coups for a player who has been on the radar screens at bigger clubs the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Liverpool, the Saudi outfit would look to add Diaby to a side that already includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Ghislain Konan, David Ospina, Marcelo Brozović, and Seko Fofana, with the latter two having arrived at Al-Awwal Park this summer for a combined €43m from Inter Milan and RC Lens respectively.

Villa has been on the heels of Diaby for a considerable portion of the current transfer window after the club looks to provide Emery with the tools to push even higher up the table in 2023-24 after the former Arsenal headmaster brought them within touching distance of a top six finish.

The club has already reinforced the spine of the team this summer after securing a free deal for Belgian international midfielder Youri Tielemans as well as embarking on a coup of their own to prize Spanish international center-back Pau Torres away from La Liga outfit Villarreal in a deal that cost the club just ~£28.5m.
