La Liga champions Barcelona have, on Saturday, secured a timely injection of funds on the transfer front.
This comes in the form of the sale of an out-of-favour member of the club’s first-team setup.
The Blaugrana star in question? Nico Gonzalez.
For those not familiar with his name, Nico is a graduate of the famed La Masia academy in Catalunya, who first burst onto the scene back in the summer of 2021.
At the time viewed as one of the most promising young talents on Barca’s books, however, the Spanish youth international subsequently failed to kick on, culminating in a season-long loan to Valencia in 2022/23.
And, evidently, the powers that be at the Camp Nou are of the opinion that Nico did not do enough across his stint with Los Che to prove himself worthy of a spot in Xavi Hernandez’s squad for the season ahead.
Nico has made the move to Portugal with Porto, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Estadio do Dragao.
The move has added an initial €8.5 million to Barca’s summer transfer warchest, with the Spanish champions also maintaining a 40% sell-on agreement, and €30 million buyback clause.
As per an official statement across the club’s website and social media platforms:
‘FC Barcelona and FC Porto have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nico González for 8.5 million euros.
‘The blaugranes retain a percentage of any future transfer and the right to buy the player back.
‘FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Nico González for his commitment and dedication and wish him all the best for the future.’
