La Liga giants Barcelona have made first contacts with Chelsea, over the signing of an up-and-coming member of the club’s midfield ranks.
The player in question? Andrey Santos.
Youngster Santos, for those not aware, put pen to paper on terms with Chelsea this past January, as part of an £18 million transfer from Vasco da Gama.
Owing to work permit issues, his arrival in west London was subsequently delayed, but the Brazilian international has since gone on to touch down in England’s capital, for pre-season training with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
And yet, as alluded to above, if another of European football’s heavyweights have their way, Santos may never even be afforded the chance to prove his worth in Chelsea blue.
As per a report from reliable Brazilian journalist Lucas Pedrosa, the powers that be at Barcelona have made contact with both their counterparts at Stamford Bridge, and Santos’ representatives.
Barca sporting director Deco is understood to view Santos as a potential long-term hair to Sergio Busquets at the Camp Nou, with Xavi Hernandez having given his blessing to a move for the midfield starlet, too.
Negotiations, in turn, are labelled as ‘ongoing’, albeit with it currently unclear whether Chelsea are at all open to the prospect of a sale.
