Barcelona are looking for a new defensive midfielder to add to their ranks as concerns grow over the performance levels of captain Sergio Busquets.
Busquets is now best his best and has come in for some heavy criticism in recent matches, especially in the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid over the weekend.
Barcelona have Franck Kessie and Frenkie de Jong who can operate in the defensive midfield role, with the no.6 role actually De Jong’s favoured position and the one he excelled in at Ajax.
However, for whatever reason, Xavi is opposed to playing De Jong there on a regular basis.
Inside the Dutchman is used sparingly and when he does start, he generally operates in one of the no.8 spots.
So, if Barcelona are not going to allow De Jong to try and take Busquets’ place, a replacement for the Spaniard needs to be found.
The 22-year-old started out as a central defender for Valencia and had made an impression with his ability to distribute the ball accurately from the back.
Last season saw former manager Jose Bordalas install him as a defensive midfielder and the youngster shone in the role and he has continued in that spot this term, providing three assists in nine outings.
It is added that Guillamon has a contract with Los Che that runs until the summer of 2026, which has a €50m release clause in it.
