Emiliano Buendia

Bayer Leverkusen have signed Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia on a loan deal until the end of the season.Β

The 28-year-old can play in midfield or a more attacking role and has been brought in by the Bundesliga champions to replace Martin Terrier, who recently sustained a long-term injury.

Buendia was a peripheral figure at Villa under Unai Emery and is relishing the opportunity to kickstart his career at the BayArena.

He told the club’s official website: β€œThe Bundesliga is very appealing to me. Bayer Leverkusen are the defending champions and in my view one of the best and most interesting teams in Europe.Β

β€œI’ve obviously seen Leverkusen’s performances in the Champions League in recent months and also their Europa League games last season. It’s a great team that plays attractive football. I’m sure I can help contribute to the club’s success.”

Crunch Bayern clash on the horizon

Xabi Alonso’s side are in contention to retain their Bundesliga title. They are second, six points behind Bayern Munich, and still have to face Vincent Kompany’s men at home on February 15.

Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes said: β€œEmi Buendia is a good, technically versatile player who plays in a passionate and assertive way.Β

β€œHe’s played more than 100 games in the demanding Premier League and brings a lot of experience to help us immediately in achieving our goals.”
