German giants Bayern Munich are on the verge of closing a deal for a surprise addition to the club’s backline.
The player all set to link up with Thomas Tuchel’s troops? Jerome Boateng.
Central defender Boateng is currently available as a free agent, on the back of the expiration of his contract with Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyonnais back in June.
With the ex-German international, now 35, yet to be picked up off the free agent market, murmurs had begun to spread online that Boateng could simply call time on his career at some point in the very near future.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds on Saturday evening is anything to go by, then, in fact, the stopper looks set to be afforded one last chance at the top level of the game.
As per a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Boateng is in line for an imminent return to his home country, with Bayern Munich:
Romano goes as far as to claim that negotiations between the parties are at [the] final stages, meaning an official announcement regarding the transfer could be forthcoming as early as Sunday.
Boateng previously spent a hugely successful ten years on the books at the Allianz Arena, from 2011 to 2021.
