The ongoing personnel clearout at Premier League giants Chelsea has, on Thursday, kicked up yet another notch.

The subject of outgoings has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in west London across the summer to date.

This comes with the Chelsea brass having done a stellar job of trimming down incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino’s heavily bloated squad.

To this point, all of Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, David Fofana, N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ethan Ampadu and Cesar Azpilicueta have been moved on, in one form or another.

As alluded to above, though, evidently, the clearout remains far from complete.

In a post across the club’s website and social media platforms a short time ago, Chelsea announced the loan departure of youngster Omari Hutchinson.

And expected to follow swiftly on the back of confirmation of Hutchinson’s exit will be that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It has of course been common knowledge for some time now that hitman Aubameyang does not feature in the plans of the aforementioned Pochettino.

The Gabonese, as a result, was recently granted permission to find a new club, on the grounds that his contract would be terminated upon a suitable landing spot coming to the fore.

After word was forthcoming that negotiations between ‘Auba’ and French heavyweights Olympique Marseille were advancing in positive fashion, a transfer, in turn, was this week labelled as imminent.

Late on Thursday, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of the 34-year-old’s return to Ligue 1 being all but confirmed.

As showcased below, Aubameyang was this evening photographed in Marseille’s colours, amid widespread confirmation that he has successfully completed a medical in the south of France:
