Chelsea have confirmed their fifth departure of the summer transfer window as centre-back Malang Sarr has joined Monaco on loan for the 22/23 season.

Sarr follows fellow central defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen out of the door this summer, while forwards Romelu Lukaku (loan) and Timo Werner (permanent) have also both left the club, to Inter Milan and RB Leipzig respectively.

And, while Sarr joins the Ligue 1 side on loan, there is thought to be an option or obligation to buy the player at the end of his spell, suggesting that his days in a Chelsea shirt may be over.

The French side have themselves claimed that it is an option to buy the player at the end of the loan spell, while numerous outlets have instead suggested that it takes the form of an appearance-related obligation to purchase the Frenchman next summer.

Kepa deal off

Meanwhile, a loan move for goalkeeper Kepa Arizzabalaga appears to now be off. The Spaniard was set to move to Napoli in search of first team football ahead of the World Cup in November, but the Serie A side are currently in negotiations to land Keylor Navas as part of the deal that will see Naples midfielder Fabian Ruiz join Paris Saint Germain this summer.

The latest on Aubameyang

Chelsea remain in the hunt for forward reinforcements, and have earmarked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a potential solution to their issues, with Thomas Tuchel having worked with the now-Barcelona striker when at Borussia Dortmund.
